Careers in Academe in this Economy
This program will provide an overview of various issues that graduating students should consider when pursuing a career in academe. Discussion will include the realities of the contemporary job market.

Balancing Career and Family

Designing Multiple-choice Exams
This session offers tips for designing effective multiple-choice exams, as well as when it is best to use them.

Developing a Teaching Portfolio
Designed to help TAs prepare teaching portfolios, this program helps graduate students to consider their own goals as a future faculty member. The three major parts of a teaching portfolio will be covered, including teaching responsibilities, teaching philosophy and goals, and evidence of effective teaching.

From the Dissertation to the First Book
Faculty members offer information on the similarities and differences between the dissertation and the first book. The session will include practical advice about revising the dissertation for publication.

Improving Your Teaching Evaluations
Student evaluations can provide TAs with important information about their teaching, but they can also cause anxiety. This program is designed to help TAs make sense of the evaluations they receive and use them to improve their teaching.

The Job Talk
