Master Faculty Observation ProgramIn recent years, TAs and new Assistant Professors have asked to observe experienced faculty members in their classrooms as they teach and interact with students. Accordingly, the Teaching Assistant Project (TAP) has assembled a select group of outstanding faculty members who have volunteered to provide graduate students and new assistant professors with the opportunity to observe their classes. These visits are designed to allow new teachers to learn pedagogical techniques by observing the ways that experienced teachers organize their courses, manage their classrooms, and engage their students. We have listed the names, teaching schedules, contact information, and class sizes of these expert professors HERE. If you are interested in participating in this program and attending a meeting (or, perhaps, more than one meeting) of one of these classes, please contact the faculty member directly to arrange a time to visit. You also may wish to ask the professor questions about his or her techniques and approaches in the classroom after the session or at another time that you arrange for a discussion. For those who are interested in earning a certificate of participation, The Teaching Assistant Project will provide certificates to TAs and graduate students who observe at least three class sessions during 2008-2009.
The Master Faculty Observation Guide When you visit a class, you might consider some of the following questions to guide your observation. Your observations in response to these questions might also serve as a guideline for your subsequent discussion with the faculty member whom you observe.
